MUSING MONDAY: FOOD, ART, AND MUSIC

MUSING MONDAYS 003: A roundup of things I've been thinking deeply about from the previous week, but not enough to write a dedicated blog post about it (yet).

I've skipped a few Mondays recently, so this will be a long one!

Fred again.. BOILER ROOM SET

My dad played "Turn On The Lights again.." the other day and I was soo blown away. I quickly found his Boiler Room set where a snippet of said song found popularity on Tiktok. He has incredible energy! The video itself stresses me out, however, as his set was stopped by dancing people THREE TIMES! Watch where you're dancing, people!

SMOKED GOUDA SPREAD AND FIG

A culinary match made in heaven! I've been eating it on bread, on crackers, wherever I can spread it. It's especially delicious on toast with pork belly and arugula, although it's difficult to find smoked gouda spread anywhere! This is the one I use purchased from Amazon, which was served by United Airlines to my dad, who introduced me to the banger flavor.

If you can't tell already by these two musings, my dad is quite the tastemaker.

WHITE IN THE SUMMER TIME

I always had trouble keeping cool during the summers as I would only wear black ever, but now I understand why people where white during the summer! I purchased two Ralph Lauren dresses in white cotton pique and it makes being out and about more bearable.

SLOWLY BECOMING AN ART COLLECTOR

There is immense joy I find in owning a limited edition item, or even a 1:1 piece of art. I felt that thrill upon receiving edition 6 of 50 postcards signed and delivered by Helmut Lang back in 2020. It's still my most prized possession, and I've been trying to obtain smaller-scale art pieces lately, whether it be zines published under 300 copies (I owned copy 63) or my hard-to-find vintage Helmut Lang.

BEING BACK ON TUMBLR

In an attempt to find a site that does not work on an algorithm, I had resorted back to Tumblr. I was an avid Tumblr user back in my early teens, and upon returning to my blog and the website itself, I feel so creatively energized. The difference between Tumblr and Pinterest, while they seem the same, is that Tumblr is operated by people who physically find inspiration and upload it to the website, and you only see content from people that you are following, or at least my feed only shows me content from people I am following. Pinterest, on the other hand, shows you what they think you would like, also known as working on an algorithm. There is a beautiful-minded individual whose name I forgot (I will update this when I remember) who actually encouraged those who viewed her video to get back to sources that are not controlled by an algorithm. I don't entirely think that algorithms are bad, but there is a different feeling when you discover something yourself and you have some sort of "ownership" of that discovery.

THE CRITERION COLLECTION, FRENCH NEW WAVE

I feel late hopping on this, but everybody has to start somewhere, no? I've been watching a lot of New Wave films lately, the majority French New Wave. So far I've watched Daisies (1966), a couple of Jean Luc Godard films, and L'Amour l'après-midi (1972). To be honest, I watch it for the fashion...

That's all my brain can handle right now.
