SNAPSHOTS FROM MAINE
My trip to Maine marked the first of summer travels I have planned while living back home with my parents, and it was such a fun experience.
PLACES
- Nubble Lighthouse: This picturesque lighthouse that reminded me of the house/island featured in Moonrise Kingdom is so quaint. You can't physically go into the lighthouse and the land that it sits on, but it's so breathtaking you have to stop by.
- Fort Williams Park: A great spot to have a picnic, walk around, and check out the Portland Headlight Lighthouse. The views are absolutely stunning!
- Casco Bay Island Ferry Service: Not necessarily a place, but a boat that will take you to places! We rode the Mailboat Run which stopped by some islands. We didn't get off and just rode the boat to sightsee, which lasted approximately 3 hours. I loved seeing the smaller charter boats and just being in the ocean.
FOOD
- Fox's Lobster House: Located a few feet away from the Nubble Lighthouse, this was a quaint restaurant that served the Northeast Coast's delicacy-- lobster rolls. They also claim to be famous for their blueberry pie, which, to be honest, changed my life. It was my first time eating blueberry pie as well (apple pie all the way <3).
- J's Oyster (Downtown Portland): You can probably guess what we got here.
- The Holy Donut (Downtown Portland): Home of the potato donuts. They had gluten-free options too! I find them to be more filling, and oilier, than a regular donut.
- Boone's Fish House & Oyster Room (Downtown Portland): Also a fabulous place where we got oysters.
- Scales (Downtown Portland): A fancy restaurant where it's advised to book your table two weeks before going. If you're looking to impress, definitely go here.
- The Standard Bakery (Downtown Portland): Possibly the best bakery in the United States. I still dream of their rosemary sea salt focaccia.
Definitely planning to come back to Maine in the future. They dub themselves "vacation land" for a reason!
